Nearly 400 runners participated enthusiastically in yesterday’s Swallowfield 10+3, sponsored by Devant.
The event is a 10k road race, plus a 3k fun run, around the gorgeous lanes up the road from our Riseley offices, and this is its second year.
The aim of the event is to raise funds for our local Scout group. I’m a big fan of Scouting and a strong supporter of 1st Swallowfield Scouts – it’s a great chance to mess around in the woods, build fires and construct things out of pioneering poles, apart from the bonus of working with some outstanding young people.
This year, despite torrential downpours, a great time was had by all. I amazed myself by still having some vocal chords left at the end of the day, despite non-stop cheering in the rain. And a hot cuppa and a slice of cake (chocolate, since you ask – mmmm) gave me a much-needed boost before the honour of handing out the trophies. Considering the general wetness, everyone was in great spirits and keen to return next year!
